Bites of Europe

Europe has a rich tradition of producing top quality food and drink. The range and diversity of the choice on offer makes food an excellent entry point for anybody embarking on a European voyage of discovery. From the green farmlands of Ireland to the sunny olive groves of Greece, from the vineyards of southern Italy to the reindeer pastures of Lapland, Europe offers a cornucopia of tasty, high-quality produce for everyone to enjoy.
The European Union is one of the most outward-oriented economies in the world and the world’s biggest exporter of goods and services. In 2019, agricultural products accounted for 3.9% of EU-27 trade with Mexico, and this share is growing. This means that foodies in Mexico are increasingly able to enjoy top quality, authentic European food and drink, produced to exacting safety standards, in the comfort of their own homes.
With the Bites of Europe campaign, the EU is showcasing the range of high-quality authentic European food and drink products that can be enjoyed by consumers in Mexico. The choice of products on offer is set to increase, as earlier this year the EU and Mexico concluded negotiations on a new Free Trade Agreement, which will make it easier for Mexican businesses to import goods from the EU.

Quality, authenticity
and safety guaranteed

Europe has a number of quality schemes and product labels in place that act as a guarantee of a product’s authenticity and quality. These include Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) and the EU Organic Logo. These labels protect consumers, who know that the product is safe and produced to strict standards, while at the same time protecting the know-how of farmers and producers. Thanks to the updated FTA, businesses and end consumers in Mexico will increasingly benefit from these EU standards.
